We're back from GLIP!!!We're Back!!! And Full
of Inspiration!! If you didn't
know, last week Mary and I were away at the Great Lakes Institute of Photography (a.k.a. GLIP) It is way up in the
beautiful down of Traverse City. We stayed in the Northwestern College dorms. We thought that was exciting since
it was the closest to college life either of us ever had to experience. I still prefer
my own bed, thank you! Mary
took a course with Kalen Henderson of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa called "The (Photographic) Iron Chef". She learned a little bit of everything. Including some children, senior and wedding photography. Mary really enjoyed
her instructor. My course
was with two very funny and talented photographers out of Brandon, Florida. Betty Huth and Ed
Booth of Huth & Booth - The Portrait Gallery, taught a great course on "The Essensials of
Wedding Photography." It was a great opportunity to tune up on the weddings just before the big season!
But I have to say the highlight of our week
was on our "Night-on-the-town Wednesday" night. We took a good friend and photographer, John Scott, and went off
to the abandon state hospital site which was later converted to an asylum. We enjoyed photographing the
creepy looking buildings. Mary took her
new fish-eye lens and we were like two kids in a candy store! Our big goal was to find the carvings that
a mental patient was suppose to carve into the brick foundation of one of the buildings. You can imagine our excitement when
we found them! Can you just hear the "Pycho" theme song playing in the background?
(I will post the photos at a later time.) But
for now we are back in the studio and finishing up were we left off! It definately felt good to get away for a week, but now
we are excited to get back to work and show you all that we have learned!! Kindest Regards,
Chell
